Established by Kim Flury, Nail-it began as a pop-up nail booth in Gateway Theatre of Shopping, in 2012.
Kim recognised the need for hassle-free and affordable nail treatments that did not require an appointment, for the modern day women ‘on the go’. At the same time, she wanted to afford women in our community employment opportunities that they never thought possible.
Kim noticed the majority of her staff were single mothers, with little to no financial support. With that said, however, all of them had done elementary nail-tech training. Adding to this, she provided further training as a necessary growing opportunity in order to up-skill and enhance their development, which ultimately increased her business's service offering.
What began as a humble offering of nail polish treatments only, expanded to gel, nail art and now, acrylic treatments. "The majority of our nail techs today have been with our brand since inception. Not only have our staff increased their skill set; but they have had the opportunity to grow their earnings too.
Often, our nail techs are the ones who highlight current nail trends and bring them to our attention, establishing their own signature style and nail art creations. They are forever learning and increasing their potential as they willingly open up to suggestions and requests from clients. In addition, all our nail techs attend regular OPI training and nail seminars hosted at Pro Beauty to supplement their experience.
From unassuming beginnings, we opened our second store in the Pearls Mall Shopping Centre on the 1st December 2016; upgrading from a pop-up booth to a small nail bar salon. Not only did our regulars find us with delight, but it allowed us an opportunity to appeal to many more people and grow our client base. This year, we have expanded to a total salon environment through our third store, Nail-it Beauty Studio, which offers manicure and pedicure treatments, as well as facials, massages, reflexology, lash extensions, waxing, and tinting - to name a few.
We are proud stockists of Elemis, a premium brand from the U.K, which provides for our state-of-the-art facials and specialised body treatments. Optiphi, developed by a South African team of specialised doctors and plastic surgeons, adds to our range of proudly South African products, including, Icebox Colours (developed by Dr Gobac) and Chilloes (produced right here in Ballito). Let's not forget our all-time international favourite OPI, that has helped build up our brand since the very beginning, putting our name on the map."
